The Stream Club team is comprised of product people. We love talking to customers and delighting them. We know how to navigate our way around ffmpeg, but prefer to play to our strengths. That's why we believe that Mux is a great complement to our product platform offering.

On the flip side, we believe that the Stream Club product platform complements Mux's infrastructure platform. Our SDK enables developers to get started faster on Mux, and enables Mux to reach use cases it couldn't support in the past. We're excited about the possibility of teaming up to take on this massive opportunity together.

Why now?

Web developers are taking over the world. Javascript is the most popular language on Github (Typescript is 3 spots behind it). Powerful APIs like Firebase, Stripe, and Twilio are pushing more engineers towards the React ecosystem. Modern React looks a lot more like back end than front end, with complex state management, networking caching, and dependency management.

If you asked the average web developer to send live video from their webcam to Youtube, they wouldn't be able to. They’d either need to bundle OBS with their product, or embark on a multi-month project to build a custom live streaming studio.

Our SDK enables web developers to easily build live streaming applications. We abstract the complexity so they can broadcast video to the world in minutes rather than months.

Not only does our SDK make it easier to build live streaming applications, but it's the only feasible way to build high quality consumer live streaming applications. Most users lack the computing power and internet capacity to create a 1080p 60FPS live stream. Offloading the processor and bandwidth-intensive parts to a cloud rebroadcaster unlocks high quality live stream creation for millions of creators.

We firmly believe that cloud-based rebroadcasting is the future for consumer live streaming applications.

What else?

Besides reducing complexity, the Stream Studio SDK offers tremendous value by way of engagement. The Steam Club Player is interlinked with Stream Studio SDK, allowing for limitless integration. Live stream engagement previously required a separate application (Stream Labs), but we’re including chat, tipping, polling, Q&A, highlighting, and innovative engagement events out of the box.

Down the road, our Stream Club App Marketplace will enable developers to build their own engagement features and integrations on top of our product platform. Or, they can select from any of the prebuilt apps to quickly deploy new use cases.

As Jon said, "We’re still in the first or second inning of online video." Partnering would be a great way for both teams to accelerate growth and capture market share in the ever changing landscape of online video. We’re looking forward to building a valuable, long term partnership that benefits both of us.
